Over the past few days multiple media outlets reported on a slot machine at MGM Grand in Las Vegas that hasn’t awarded a jackpot in nearly 20 years.

The prize currently stands at more than $2.3 million.
Under Nevada law, the old machine can’t be replaced until awarding most of that sum. In other words, it stays until the jackpot is hit. Gamblers reportedly have flocked to it.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the machine takes $1, $2 and $3 bets, and it does award smaller prizes. It’s just that the grand prize has remained elusive for what feels like eternity in slot-machine years. The device is the oldest of its kind at MGM.
All of its companions have been phased out over the years.
In the quest to hit it, the degeneracy has definitely emerged. One gambler told the WSJ:
“Security kept coming over to wake me up, but they didn’t say I had to leave. So I’d wake up, press a button, and then fall asleep again. I just have this feeling it’s going to hit soon.”
Another gambler reportedly sat at the machine a couple of weeks ago for three full days.
Also, when the machine’s position on the gaming floor was altered recently due to a renovation, superstitious slot grinders reportedly were overwhelmed with panic.
